Everything You Need To Know About Save The Dates

March 12, 2018

Planning a wedding in your hometown or a destination one? If your guests are local or you only have a few out of town guests that have to travel, your save the dates can be sent 4-6 months before your big day. If most or all of your guests will be traveling you’ll want to send them at least 6 months in advance. Be mindful of the season too; for weddings during peak times, like Christmas or Easter, guests would need to make preparations in advance.

Of course, the idea is for your guests to literally save the date of your wedding, so naturally the date and location are mandatory. You can add details like the time and venue for the wedding invitation, since you can’t be sure they won’t change. You can also include suggested accommodations, must-see attractions, and other travel tips if you’re sending out destination wedding save the dates.

Don’t worry if you don’t have all the specifics confirmed yet – the final details can be included along with your wedding invitations or added to your wedding website (if you’re having one).

Because save the dates don’t have the same the traditional rules and etiquette as other wedding stationery staples, they can be as formal or informal as you’d like.

You can use the save the date to set the tone of your big day or you can treat it as a separate piece altogether. From short and sweet cards, to trifold sets, the whole idea is to provide a formal or fun glimpse of the celebration to come.

With numerous custom and semi-custom wedding designs, Your Big Day has save the dates for every wedding. Browse our collection or check out some of our previous blog posts for ideas. All of our designs are customisable and can be tailored to tell your own love story!
